Under the social background of cultural communication between China and Korea and the cultural background of the prevalence of consumer culture, mass culture and fan culture, the popularity of South Korean variety shows is produced and become a new round of the Korean wave. Entertaining and popularize of culture provide the communication environment for the popularity of South Korean variety shows; not ideal domestic TV market become a good opportunity for it; and network provides a platform of the popularity of South Korean variety shows. Its influence should not be underestimated.From the perspective of communication, different from the previous Korean wave, the popularity of South Korean variety shows is generated in network media environment. It changes the communication mode from the traditional mode to a disordered and diffused one, reflecting the influence of traditional media and network media in forming the cultural trend.The popularity of South Korean variety shows reflects the pursuit of entertainment of the audience, and the lack of values in the network world; it shows the audience’s symbolic consumption for culture, but reflects human’s losing the dominant figure; it demonstrated the excessive entertainment tendency of media culture and the spiritual civilization crisis.When we learn from the South Korean variety shows, we should also be rational to treat the phenomenon and guide the correct direction of spiritual civilization. To treat the phenomenon rationally, the traditional media and network media should undertake the social responsibility in not exaggerating the influence of the Korean wave and communicating positive mass culture.The audience should improve the identification ability and media literacy to establish positive spiritual values. By improving the competitiveness of cultural production, we can enhance the cultural soft power of China.
