Since the late 1990 s, the Internet penetration rate in China surged, and the number of Chinese Internet users keeps growing rapidly. After entering the 21 st century, accompanied with 3G and 4G telecommunications technology updating quickly, Internet environment changing from web1.0 to web2.0 and the high coverage of smart phones and tablet devices, our media ecology occurred significant changes. Under this background, a considerable circulation falling has appeared for lots of traditional paper media, meanwhile their advertising revenues continued to decline. How to accomplish a smooth transition into digital media time when multi-screen devices continue fighting for the attention of the readers has become the entire print media industry’s most concerned question.This dissertation is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the significance, purpose, status and methods of this research; the second part reviews the history of China’s traditional paper media’s digital transformation; the third part analysis the current situation of the print media digital transition statues and achievements; Part IV discusses trends and directions of digitizing paper media for future development; fifth part offered some suggestion and recommendations for the digital transformation of the paper media.The research methods used in this dissertation includes literature review, case study and comparison analysis. It pays close attention to different stages of digital transformation of the traditional print media in China under a new technical background and market competition demanding. In this research, the author makes a conclusion about the experience of China’s print media in the digital transformation, and offers suggestions to their flaws and challenges. The purpose is to provide some theoretical foundation for China’s traditional paper media’s digital transformation.
