Along with information technology development, Radiology Information System(RIS), which was only a department-level business system in hospital, is now becoming a full-hospital image solution. RIS not only provides functions to support daily work in radiology department, but also integrates with other 3rd party systems and exchanges data. As an important part of hospital information platform, hospital now requires RIS to provide more and more functions.Looking around the domestic RIS systems, we found that most RIS systems work in a department level, and only supports businesses in radiology department, and with some disadvantages like un-customizable workflow, incompliance with integration standards, simple function module design. Along with hospital information development, hospitals have new function requirements, like Full Image Departments support, Distributed Deployment in Multi-hospital, Regional Healthcare, and Certificate Authority Integration. So it becomes important to research on how to build up a configurable, full-hospital level radiology information system, in compliance with integration standards.Firstly, we analyzed the development of radiology information system, and looked into the working mechanism and business workflow. Based on this, we used use case technique to build requirement model for radiology information system, and analyzed the non-functional requirement of system. After that, we designed the system architecture with Tier method, and divided system to presentation tier, application tier and data tier. For each tier, we analyzed frameworks and techniques to insure reusability of the system. The system is web based B/S structure, end users use web browser to access application server by LAN. According to end user roles, the system is modularized to decrease system coupling, and increase configurability. HL7 V2.3 standard is supported, system is able to send and receive HL7 messages with both socket connection and file system. DICOM MPPS and MWL interfaces are also supported for communication with modalities. Core data is standardized, referring to HL7 RIM model. Considering high availability rule, MSCS cluster solution is used for system deployment, which makes the system back online quickly after failure occurs. Finally we used static class diagram and sequence diagram to describe the implementation of radiology information system. And we verified the result by function test and performance test in the laboratory. The RIS system has been put into use in many hospitals and has obtained a good evaluation.
