The Mine Geographic Information System is developed in view of coal mine safety and rescue, serving for the navigation system. Through the system, after the cave-in, we can quickly extract path information that navigation system needs from existing paper or electronic m ining map, so the rescue rs can probe the down hole environm ent on purpose to save precious rescue time.This paper regards the geographic inform ation system(GIS) technology and its application in the coal mine roadway as the main object of study, based on the in-depth analysis of the current GIS theory and technology principle, geographic inform ation system design and arch itecture of the coal m ine roadways has been carried on th e thorough discussion and research. The main content as f ollows: For the coal m ine without geographical information system, in this type of mine, the system can realize the coal m ine roadway m ap drawing, m ap data of vector and raster form at used for navigation system. The map files can be direc tly imported into the system for the mine with established geographical information system(GIS); Users can draw the vector map, the map automatically with topology information. Output the m ap data is a common operation, the operation can be through th e two common m ethods of data output, namely the way of data file and databa se; The system has realized many commonly used functions, such as roaming, narrow, amplification, eagle eye, etc. Also it provides a linear distance between two points and the polygon distance measurement function.The system has achieved m ap drawing of th e coal mine roadway, as well as the vector and raster format map. The map files can be directly imported into the system for the mines with established geographical inform ation system(GIS). The geographic information system can m onitor and m anage the m ine safety situation, personnel information such as location and equipment condition.
