Currently, millimeter-wave communication plays a decisive role in electronic telecommunication and weapon system. As the core of millimeter-wave transceiver front-end, millimeter-wave up/down converter module has an important effect on millimeter-wave system.This research provided an in-depth study on millimeter-wave up/down converter module, and established U/C-band up/down converter module in planar hybrid integrated circuits. According to the modularization, this paper divided the design of the module into three key components: LO unit, up-converter unit, and down-converter unit, and illustrated each unit in detail which included design criterion decomposition, devices selection and key circuit design, to get the final test results.The output frequency of the local oscillator units is 39.5GHz, the output power is greater than +15dBm, the phase noise respectively is-89.14dB/Hz@10kHz,-89.9dB/Hz@100kHz,-100.3dB/Hz@1MHz, and the spurious suppression is greater than 50 dBc, which meet the indicator.The up-converter unit makes frequency from C-band to U-band, whose gain reach 39 dBc, but flatness and spurious suppression don’t reach the indicator. After plus a filter, the up-converter unit’s gain reach 34 dB, and the third-order inter modulation suppression and the vibration suppression are greater than 50 dBc, which meet the indicator. But the flatness still does not meet the indicator, which should be further improved.The down-conversion unit makes frequency from U-band to C-band, whose gain reach 17 dBc, and flatness achieve 3dB, spurious suppression are greater than 50 dBc,which meet the indicator.
