Millimeter wave transceiver module plays a very important role in various fields of millimeter wave technology application. It is widely used in electronic telecommunication and weapon system like point-to-point communication, electronic warfare, precision-guided weapon, phase array radar and millimeter wave imaging. As the core of transceiver system, up-conversion and down-conversion modules play a decisive role in system performance.Millimeter wave applications are focused on Ka-band and W-band. Nowadays, the research on Ka-band is more and more mature, while technology on W-band develops slowly because of various factors. In this thesis, up-conversion and down-conversion modules in 3mm band with HMIC technology are developed based on the theory of millimeter wave transceiver system and solid-state device. According to the method of modularized circuit, the up-conversion module is divided into three smaller modules, those are W-band quadrupler and mixer module, W-band finline filter and W-band amplifier module. After the development of up-conversion module, down-conversion module is also developed and measured.The scheme determination and circuit design are finished after the verification of single MMICs. The contents of this thesis are divided into these parts as follows.1. Based on technical demands and common scheme of up-conversion and down-conversion module, preliminary scheme is presented and design principles are elaborated.2. The passive circuits in up-conversion and down-conversion module are briefly described. All active devices are elaborately designed, assembled and mesured including W-band quadrupler, W-band mixer and W-band LNAs.3. The final up-conversion and down-conversion module schemes are determined based on all single devices’ measurement. The substrate circuit, power supply circuit and cavity are designed and assembled. All measured results satisfy the technique demands.4. The planar hybrid integrated 3mm up-conversion and down-conversion modules are presented with a series of advantages, such as high performance, miniaturization and high consistency. The dimension of up-conversion module and down-conversion module is 19?20?81mm3 and 19?20?30mm3 respectively. The problem of self-oscillation and none power output is analyzed and solved.5. Because of several weak points in design and measurement process, the outlook for future work is proposed to dimension reduction and performance improvement of the modules without changing the implementation scheme.
