With the rapid development of Optoelectronic information technology and other disciplines technology, the means for people to obtain information is becoming more and more advanced, and this leads to the information explosion. So people pay more attention to information-storing, especially in terms of high-speed of information-storing which restricts people for some minor details of things. Therefore, the researching and designing of high-speed storage systems is a very meaningful work.On the base of consulting a great amount of materials and relying on the actual demand of the system, the design of SATA 2 interface technology is considered. The primary controller of system is Spartan-6 chip(XC6SLX25T) which has gigabit transceiver interfaces. DDR SDRAM is used as system cache in this design and solid-state drive as a high-speed storage device. In this thesis, there are several aspects of the system are discussed in detail, they are include appraising the plans, hardware design of system, protocol analysis and the simulation and verification of related design.First of all, through consulting relevant information and conclusions that the design of SATA as superior to IDE, PCI and PCI-E. Ultimately, the relevant chip models are determined.Secondly, the hardware circuits of the system including data collection module circuit, DDR module circuits, SATA relevant modules circuits and some peripheral circuits are finished. In addition the PCB layout considerations and the design of DDR model are explained.Thirdly, this part of thesis mainly refers to the description of SATA protocol, and the design of SATA host includes four layers(application layer, transport layer, data link layer and physical layer). Finally, the simulation and verification of the system is finished. The reading and writing operation’s simulation of DDR SDRAM module and the FPGA verification at all levels are described. The tests showed that the system design achieves the goals.
