Portable storage device of high speed and great capacity is common need in Data Collector. Although capacity of hard disk become more and more bigger with development of science and technology, storage speed of hard disk just is about 10 Mb/s now and can't satisfy the need of actual project; Other storage device such as RAM , FLASH having high storage speed but just have small capability. So the Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) was invented. The basic idea of RAID was to combine multiple small, inexpensive disk drives into an array of disk drives which yields performance exceeding that of a Single Large Expensive Drive and appears to be a single logical storage unit or drive to the computer. The storage speed and capability of RAID is several even hundreds of times of that of single large expensive disk. Although having considerable storage speed and capability the common array of disk can not independently work without computer and is not portable. The thesis makes use of ARM and FPGA to control SATA hard disk interface controller then to control arrays of SATA disc thereby, and make use of the USB highway to realize the data transmission between the arrays of SATA disks and PC . In this way the arrays of SATA disks can work independently without computer and yields fine performance of high storage speed and great capability .This system having fine flexibility and expansibility may adapt to satisfy various memory request. The content of this thesis mainly includes : 1. Demonstrating the entire scheme of the system. 2.Designing the systematic hardware electrocircuit and making the PCB board. 3. Designing and debugging the software about the systerm.
