With the rapid development of modern information industries, in various military, civil and industrial fields, there are needs to record or store the processed data in different occasions. With the continuous development of applications, accompanied by increasing amount of data capacity and the data rate, new requirements are proposed on the storage system, such as portable, offline, long time, largecapacity, efficient storage and so on. These strict conditions also lead the development of storage technologiesAccording to the existing requirement, this dissertation based on the research of the data storage system, discussed the prospects for the development of storage technologies and research status quo, analysis the principle of the SATA protocol theoretical system, designed an hard disk access control program based on the FPGA, with the SATA state machine logic, the FPGA and SATA hard drives hardware circuit test platform, after the debug of the software and hardware, it verified the feasibility of the storage system. The primary work in this dissertation are as follows:1. Explaned the principle of the SATA protocol for data transmission detailed and comprehensive, described the process of data transmission in each protocol layer by achieve conditions, data structure, encoding, and the basis of inheritance ATA protocol.2.Used data flow control program based on the FPGA and introduced the functionality of each module and the principle.3.Designed and implemented the state machine logic in the FPGA, described each sub-protocol layer process by state transition diagram and text.4.Completed the design and production of the printed circuit board, describe the basis of the design layout detailed, and debug the system in the later period.
