Optical fiber fusion splicer has an indispensable role in the optical communication industry, and the core technology of it is its alignment system. That is to say, the performance of optical fiber fusion splicer largely depends on the fiber alignment mechanism。The higher alignment accuracy, then the higher fiber coupling efficiency, then the splice loss is also lower. This paper mainly research and design a five dimensions automatic alignment mechanism of fiber fusion splicer based on detecting light power.At the same time, this paper has designed a kind of fiber fusion splicer whith base on optical power detection. This fiber fusion splice is based on the technology of detecting coupling rate of optical power while fiber alignment process. The main technology of this designed:1×2 type Optical fiber coupler whose coupling ratio is 50%:50%, the optical power detector and photoelectric signal processing circuit, design of five dimensional alignment mechanism and realization of 3D alignment mechanism. The design of a five dimensional alignment mechanism mainly include translation alignment on X, Y, Z axis direction and yaw and pitch angle adjustment.3D alignment mechanism namely realizates X, Y, Z axis shift. Alignment mechanism for automatic alignment process mainly use special controller and realize the alignment automaticlly.Tis design uses a thin lens to couple the light source and the coupler. And at the same time, using the ASAP optical software to simulate fibre-optical coupling refer to lightwave field theory and fibre-optical coupling theory, through that we have work out the variation trend of fibre-optical coupling raiot as the variety of the fiber’s end distance, inclination and lateral displacement. Base this work, we work out the capacity of the fiber’s end distance, inclination and lateral displacement at certain coulping loss. This provides good grounds for research on optical automatic alignment system.According to the design scheme, theoretical and simulation results, we build three-dimensional automatic alignment of optical fiber and write C program to control it. Through this we can realize 3D alignment mechanism and collect relevant date. This date verify that the real result is compatible with the analysis of theory. We have got initial good results.
