With the rapid development of millimeter-wave hybrid integrated circuits, monolithic microwave and millimeter wave integrated circuits and multi-chip module circuits, millimeter-wave technology has been widely used in the areas of communications, radar and electronic warfare systems. As one of the key components in the microwave and millimeter wave circuits and systems, the performance of millimeter wave local oscillator source directly affects the overall performance of the system, and it is an important guarantee to achieve the desired goals and normal operation for the entire system.Through the demonstration and full investigation, taking into account the current development at home and abroad, as well as requirements of the subject, X-band VCO signal will be directly octaved to W-band to achieve W-band octave source in this thesis. The advantages are: frequency output stability relatively high, noise figure is relatively small, simple structure for easy integration. Currently W-band frequency technology is not mature, therefore, the multiplier and the active device of the circuit considered MMIC chip, can get gain multiplier, greatly reduce the time of circuit simulation and debugging time. Performance is also guaranteed.Content of the thesis include X-band solid source and a eight-octave frequency multiplier. The study includes: system solutions to the overall design, simulation and design of passive circuit in system(W-band waveguide- microstrip transition, X-band and W-band bandpass filter), MMIC chip to select(VCO, frequency multiplier, PA), bias and power circuit design and cavity design. In this thesis, X-band solid source and a eight-octave frequency multiplier were designed, assembled and tested. The output frequency of the X-band solid source is between 9.6GHz-10.8GHz, the output power is between 11dBm-12 dBm, the tuning bandwidth is 1.2GHz. Output saturation power of eight-octave frequency multiplier has 0dBm, miscellaneous harmonic suppression have reached about 30 dBc. The output frequency of overall test is in the range of 76.8GHz-86.4GHz, output power is between-5dBm--4dBm. Test results show that the multiplier amplification test circuit design achieve the intended purpose, and completed the octave chip verify work. Confirmed that its performance is meet to the design requirements of the overall program.Finally, some suggestions are maded for the whole issue, and summarized the lack of design. The content of this thesis is to lay the foundation for this project follow-up.
