RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) technology is booming in recent years, and the application domain expands day after day, in which RFID READER is the most expensive and most complex part of the whole system. With the integration of the IC constantly improve, single chip solutions of UHF READER has emerged in recent years, and single chip solutions become the trend of UHF RFID systems.In this paper, we study the DAC embeded in the UHF RFID reader SOC. DAC is a typical kind of mixed signal circuits, its design method which is not totally identical to analog circuit design, and digital circuit design method is far more from that.First, this paper introduces the function of UHF RFID reader, analyzing the structure of it, so we can clearly understand DAC’s position in this huge system, the using of the block diagram give an intuitive knowledge of the DAC architecture.Then from the DAC’s preceding stage which is the digital signal processing circuit and DAC’s later stage which is the reconstruction filter requirements determine the interface and the specs of DAC, the specs mainly includes digital bits width, the clock sampling rate, the output common mode voltage level, the output differential mode voltage level and dynamic range.Signal model is very important for circuit analysis. Analysing the signal representation of DAC unit, DAC unit mathematical model is deduced, thus quantitative and rigorous knowledge about DAC’s time domain and frequency domain expression between output and input signal is clear.The final result is the circuit representation from the signal feature. We can qualitative analysis the possible non-ideal properties that maybe occur. DAC’s parts includes the inverse sinc block, decoding block, latch block and switch current array block, these modules can choose thousands of the structure, according to the requirements of our specs, we choose the appropriate form, considering the area, power consumption and signal quality.Finally, using the TSMC 0.18 um 1P6 M RFID microwave mixed signal process, we realize the DAC module schematic design, layout design and parasitic parameter extraction and the LVS. After reading the IEEE DAC test standard, the simulation results of system simulation are given, including SFDR and simulation of time domain select command. At the end, we give the summary of the current steering DAC.
