The Research On South Korean Reality Show Running Man In The View Of Narratology

As the main narrator nowadays, TV media undertakes the important responsibility in inheriting and spreading social culture. Reality show becomes more and more prevalent in China in recent years. But there is few scholars pay their attention to this program form. Chinese reality show is lack of innovation and weakening of cultural function. However, South Korean reality show not only spreads happiness, but also displays its cultural connotation. For this reason, South Korean reality show has achieved a great success worldwide and has owned a very large audience in China. The difference in narrative mode and content of TV programs will bring different social effects. The success of a reality show lies in charm itself ultimately. Dramatization of narrative content and narrative structure is the key to successful reality show. Naturally, the success of South Korean reality show cannot be separated from its successful narrative mode.This article attempts to use narrative theory to analyze South Korean reality show Running Man which is of popularity and high ratings. This study used research methods that textual analysis and case study to analyze themes of story and seven narrative elements, including figure, impetus, plot, frame, situation, detail and reinforcement. Meanwhile, it embodied cultural value that contained in Running Man by analyzing its narrative technique. Sequentially, it tries to conclude the program’s narrative features and provide reference value for Chinese reality show.Through this study, this article puts forward four suggestions to Chinese reality show. First, intensify the image and character setup of participants, which can promote the narrative progress of program. Second, there are diverse people who join in reality show participate in constructing story by interaction. Third, improve the quality of production team and grasp the details to enhance sense of reality. Fourth, integrate native culture into the narrative construction and display traditional culture by all kinds of narrative device in all aspects.
