ABSTRACT:Data Journalism has been a popular terminology in news and communication circles in recent years, whose origins can be traced back to Precision News and Computer Assisted Reporting, which emerged from1970s. However, Data Journalism of today, has a more distinguishingly unique background.In2009, the inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Leeemphasized the significance of data to journalism:’Analysing data is the future for journalists.’Nowadays, data news has close connection with Big Data, which refers to any collection of data sets so large and complex, produced during the information explosion, compared to traditional data. Against such a background, it is of huge significance to observe the practices in the Journalism Industry and Press, with a professional perspective of Journalism and Communication study.The academia has made many researches about the definitions, concepts, and practices in home and abroad. In this essay, comparisons between two financial websitesShuzishuo of Caixin.com of China and Visual Data of Bloomberg of the USA-will be made, to analyze the status quo, characteristics, difference in practice, and suggestions concerning the future developments will be given.The essay will be consisted of five parts. Firstly, introduction.An detailed introduction to the background will be given, combined with literature reviews from both China and abroad, then an analysis of key concepts and the statement of purpose of the study. Secondly, study design. The objects, methods, problems of this study will be explained, with a detailed description of samples of content analysis methods and categories.
