With the development of computer and internet technology, the computer industry pays more and more attention to the embedded software development. However, due to its unique complexity, many excellent project management models are hard to be applied directly. It is an urgent need for the industry to find a proper development model, which through rapid product release to support business expansion.Since the1970s, people have gained a lot of achievements in the study of the software development process, and the study itself has received increasing and wide attention from academics and industry. The models of waterfall, spiral, extreme programming agile development and Scrum have been all actually used in different fields and have achieved significant results. In recent years, as a result of rapid development of chip technology and the invention of a variety of intelligent terminal products, the development of embedded products has gained increasing attention from the computer industry. However, because the development involves hardware, software, system and application and etc. the traditional methods have difficulty in ensuring that the embedded product projects are finished in time, in addition to with low cost and good quality. It results in the study of new project management methods. This thesis takes an embedded product-the development of the wireless router as an example, to make a research on how the Scrum project management model is applied to the development of the embedded products. This thesis focuses on the improvement of the Scrum model, which helps to solve problems in the development of embedded products, such as that the development requires the developers come from varieties of knowledge domains, the long product development cycle, and weak adaptability to the changes in requirements. This thesis proposes the Em-Scrum model, which can better adapt to the requirements of practical work. In this thesis, the author has done the following work:(1) Through literature research, this thesis makes a comparative analysis on the mainstream management models of software development. The thesis especially makes an elaborate research on the Scrum model which is the representative of the agile software development model. This thesis also makes an analysis on the relation between Scrum model and CMMI.(2) This thesis proposes the Em-Scrum model which applied to the embedded products development. Compared with Scrum model, the Em-Scrum model has a lot of improvements, which are showed in the following parts:(a) Make a clear definition on the range of application of the development model and the product life cycle integration model.(b) In areas such as staff organization structure, develop model processes were adjusted to the Scrum method.(c) In the stage of project planning, when it is required to assess the function point priority, the analytic model constructed on the basis of (AHP) is introduced, which helps to analyze complicated problems.(3) Taking the product development of wireless router of D company as an example, this thesis analyzes the problems in the project management of the medium-scale embedded products development. Meanwhile, provides an assessment method which can test the effectiveness of the Em-Scrum model. This thesis demonstrates that the Em-Scrum model is not only beneficial for the project development of wireless router, more importantly, it also helps to accumulate experience for the embedded products project, and helps to improve the project management level. The Em-Scrum model has its practical meaning in the management of the medium-scale embedded products project.
