The emerging application space for smart objects in Wireless sensor networks(WSNs) continue to rise in recent years, which requires scalable and interoperable communication mechanisms that support future innovation. The Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) established the IPv6 over Low-power WPAN(6LoWPAN) Working Group to work on protocol specifications to optimize the operation of IPv6 over networks made of IEEE 802.15.4. This paper introduces 6LoWPAN technology into the Dragon-Lab, enriches Dragon-Lab laboratory platform service from the perspective of IPv6. This paper focuses on 6LoWPAN protocol stack and its application, by using of the real network and the real device resources of IPv6 Internet environment to design a monitoring system, which includes several sensor nodes and a gateway node. The main works in the paper are listed in the following three parts:(1) Shaping and porting the Contiki operating system.Comparing two kinds of existing development environment of Contiki, then select the Windows 7 system as the development environment.Chose CC2530 hardware as the platform to complete the analysis and migration about Contiki operating system.This providese the necessary support for further study on 6LoWPAN and its applications.(2) Design and implementation of the 6LoWPAN-based temperature monitoring system.Based on Contiki operating system the CC2530 nodes can communicate by using IPv6 addresses. Design and implementation of the gateway to connect 6LoWPAN and IPv6 network, so the 6LoWPAN network and IPv6 network can achieve two-way data communication, lay the foundation for further improvement of the temperature monitoring system.(3) Testing and analysis the performance of monitoring system.In this 6LoWPAN network, we design the data acquisition module, the local data storage module, as well as the data query module to optimize the system. Then testing and analysis the monitoring system which has been built, including the connectivity of this system, and achievement of the basic functions of 6LoWPAN, the transmission of data and so on, the results show that the system can work normally and achieve the desired results.Finally, conclude the work of this paper and point out the future research directions.
