Wireless sensor network is a hot topic of network technology, nowadays. With the IPv4 technique fade out, 6Lo WPAN has improved the compatibility between wireless sensor network and IPv6, which is the next generation of Internet protocol. This technique has tremendous advantage comparing with Zig Bee and it will become the mainstream technique in the future wireless sensor network technology. Research focus of this paper is the adaptation layer technology and the 6Lo WPAN routing protocol. Details are as follows:(1) This paper firstly provides an overview of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and related technical basis of 6Lo WPAN.The adaptation layer, including packet fragmentation, reassembly and header compression and decompression are analyzed. The CC2530 node of Tiny OS is used to test the HC1 header compression and decompression technique and the result shows this technique can improve the data delivery rate.(2) This article discusses the two routing mechanism in 6Lo WPAN which are Mesh-Under Route-Over and their representative route. Analysts believe that although the protocol RPL has better scalability and reliability, but its complex, high power consumption is not suitable for wireless sensor networks. The LOAD routing protocol, a protocol basing on the AODV protocol, is the most promising routing protocol for 6Lo WPAN to achieve.(3) LOAD protocol currently exists for load imbalance and the huge consumption disadvantage when the routing link is broken. This paper designs an improved O-LOAD routing protocol, adding backup route and residual energy and taking it as one of the routing cost. It analyzes of the routing request, routing response and link repair process thoroughly.(4) Then, this article indicates the difficulties of implement O-LOAD routing protocol and fully analyzes its code. Three kinds of different simulating environment are designed on NS2 simulation platform. The result shows that O-LOAD routing protocol has higher data delivery rate, lower routing consumption, longer network survival time and reducing the frequency of routing discovery. It is more suitable for the wi reless sensor network which requires extreme low ener gy consumption.
