With the rapid development of science and technology in recent years, robot has gradually expanded from industrial applications to home applications and there will be more domestic robots into our lives in the future. After the household robots into our family, it can not only bring us the joy of entertaining or help us solve parts of the housework but also ensure the safety of our family.The population aging problem is remsrksble and the pace of work of young people is very fast in recent years, It is especially important that how to monitor the indoor situation when young people is not at home. Therefore, based on the study of domestic and international household robots, a family intelligent monitoring robot which had remote monitoring and alarm functions was developed in this paper. Using the robot, the situation in home can be monitored anytime.Robot carrier used in this paper is a special nonlinear systems named underactuated mechanical systems that the independent variable number is less than the degrees of freedom number. The structure of this mechanical system is relatively simple and provides a good mobile platforms for the experiment. Arduino control board is the core of the hardware control system, which is mainly divided into the controller unit, the wireless communication unit, the sensor unit, camera unit, drive unit, battery unit. Software control program consists of two parts and the one was programed using VB to accomplish the control interface and another was written in C language to realize the underlying control of the robot.The family intelligent monitoring robot developed in the paper can carry out has many functions such as remote control, receiving information, hazardous gas detection, obstacle alarm and obstacle-avoidance. Research results have not only certain innovation and practicality but also good promotion and application value.
