| The coverage of Olympic grand event is a touchstone of media competitiveness in covering sports. Within the background of pressures from professional sports media, highly commercialized metro newspapers and major portal websites in China, general-interest daily newspapers are facing serious challenges in sports coverage. As a professional athlete and graduate student in journalism, the author adopts the methodology of text analysis and in-depth interviews, and takes excellent sports news awarded by National Sports News Association of Daily Newspapers, in 2004 Athens Olympics and 2012 London Olympics respectively, as samples.Through the investigation, the author describes and analyzes the changes and developments in Chinese media coverage of Olympics, and based on it raises suggestions to improve Chinese sports journalism. |
