Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) is a wireless communication technology, transforming information via radio frequency signals to identify a specific target, without any contact. The ultra-high frequency(UHF)-band RFID technology is promising for its strong penetration, long-distance transmission, high transmission data rate, and high reliability. Moreover, it can also read multiple RFID tags simultaneously. Thus, it has been considered as an important RFID technology receiving wide interest around the world. In this thesis, we develop and design UHF-band RFID handheld, which as an application example can be used in intelligent optical distribution network(ODN) systems. This thesis presents a handheld RFID system design. In the hardware implementation, we have made careful selections for a range of function modules, including microprocessor, radio frequency identification module, GPS module, and WIFI module. We choose STM32F103RBT6 chip with cortex-M3 core as the microprocessor, AS3992 radio frequency identification chip as the radio frequency identification module, CNP301 UA module made by CONTRUP as the GPS module, and a low-cost embedded module HLK-RM10 made by Shenzhen Hi-Link Electronics as the WIFI module. Software design includes RFID handheld software module and the PC software module. The RFID handheld software module includes initialization, serial port initialization, and subroutines. The PC software module includes the function for communication and database access. The designed UHF-band RFID handheld can effectively demonstrate the function including reading and writing RFID tags, GPS position, data uploading, remotely accessing database, etc.
