The Study Of The Application Of The Stage Gate In K Company’s NPD Quality Management

In the process of K Company’s NPD project, the lack of the systematic quality management and control of the developing product was insufficient in the past so that it became the obstruction for running the new project smoothly. The NPD project has a higher risk to be developed and launched smoothly and the quality of the new product development project is very important, any mistake of NPD project management may cause an irreparable economic loss to the company. That’s why it is very critical to carry on the quality management in the process of the NPD project. At the same time, in the process of the new product development, the quality management will be affected by a variety of factors which may cause a large uncertainty for the product being developed. The traditional project management method, which is based on the product and process qualification control, cannot meet the increasing market requirement and became one of the difficulties in the NPD project management process.This paper analyzes the current status and existing problems of K Company’s NPD project management, Highlights the importance and weakness of quality management and quality control during new product development process; Analyzes the way of using Stage Gate as a tool to manage the NPD project and also studies the way of applying the NPD quality management in each stage of the Stage Gate process to improve the product quality in the development phase, and uses the NPD project cases as the examples to verify the efficiency of implementing the Stage Gate as the NPD project management system.It also analyzes the existing NPD management and quality control issues, introduces the way of using the six sigma as the quality control tool to work together with Stage Gate as the new NPD management system, how to use the checklist as the gate control for the quality management in each NPD stage to well control the NPD quality and also introduces how to use the quality control tool like six sigma to improve the NPD quality in each stage when necessary to ensure the NPD quality and establish the new NPD project management system in K company.
