"Communication Constitutes Organization":Christianity Embedded In The Rural Society

From the perspective of communication, this article mainly studies the reason why Christianity organization spreads so fast in the rural society, and how it fits for the needs of the rural society. The post functionalism of organizational communication thinks that the structure of organization is either restriction or resources to the members. Communication is restricted by the structure of organization, and conversely constructs the structure of organization, which is called "Communication Constitutes Organization". This theory mainly reconstructs the position of communication in organization, which means communication is no longer spread just in the organization; it also participates in the construction of organizational community, the seep of organizational rules, the development of organization and so on. McPhee and Zaug attempted to explain how communication constituted organization specifically by differentiating four aspects of basic organizational communication, which involved members’ identity consultancy, the self-construction of organization, action coordination and system location.From this point of view, the article mainly studies the organizational communication of Christianity in the rural society in four aspects:Firstly, by investigating the basic aspects of religious life, which are religious rites, this part studies by which modes of communication, Christianity organization maintains the affective interaction and formats the collective consciousness and identity recognition. This article holds the view that, by the basic rites and fellowship activities and the aspects of affective interaction, personal identity, care for each other, Christianity in the rural society motivates the collective memory about Christianity, and those repeated rites are reflected in the mind of Christians, becoming an action record, changing the behavior and value judgment of the Christian, remolding self cognition and formatting the Christian framework of cognition and eventually formatting a organizational community.Secondly, religious doctrine is very important in the maintain of organization, there exists power confrontation in the impartment of religious doctrine, the imagination of Christianity leads to the religious belief, which the preachers must concern in the process of preach. The relationship between those two is not one way, there exists satisfaction and correction and keeps on constructing the operation and development mode of organization. Meanwhile, other modes of delivering like literacy class and pamphlets use the religious interpretation and stories to format the collage of text, influencing the establishment of value and words in the organization.Thirdly, the Christians in the rural changes a lot in many fields such as daily communication, living habits and customs, and those changes caused many contradictions. This article studies the interaction between the Christians and their social network, presuming that the processing of contradiction is rather interactive than uncompromising, reflecting in the Christian organization, it presents its local communication strategy.Fourthly, in the context of rural society, the participation in the public stuff and positive image is another way of sustainable development. The rural society is much more superstitious and there exists many illegal religious organizations, and the acceptation of government is very important in getting the trust of Christians and their social network. At the same time, by the means of charity, arbitration and public activities, the Christianity organization keeps on expanding the influence in the rural society. It is known to us all that the Chinese governments neither have any incentive policy in the development of Christianity, nor allow any support from foreign church, so Christianity has to develop itself by enhancing influence.By the research of those four aspects, this article presumes that the development of Christianity in the rural society imposes "embeddeness" strategy, which is not catering but an interactive process with the rural society. At the same time, rural culture as an actor is always transferring meanings of Christianity in this progress.Meanwhile, the object of this study had established the first rural cultural center in china, which was also cited by the ministry of culture in China. However, with the development of urbanization process, the rural culture was impacted and the public life was withered. The development of Christianity in the rural society adapted this situation, its collective ritual practices and communication in the organization filled the short of public life and entertainment, and eventually spreading very fast and becoming a part of rural culture. However, with the development of the new rural construction, the construction of rural culture has been an important part of the construction of socialist spiritual civilization; the nation power returns back to the field of rural culture construction. In such a case, what kind of changes may happen in the future development of Christianity in the rural society? It is another important problem, which is put forward in this paper.
