Today the computer network information technology is developing every day. It’s making a revolutionary influence on people’s life especially education. Making use of network in education has becoming a major trend nowadays. From the open education resources to the open education project, changes in teaching methods are driving by education at home and abroad by means of network. With the proposing of the concept of Massive Open Online Courses, top universities at home and abroad have one after another established the network learning platforms which can offer online courses. Three of the most representative platforms are Coursera, Udacity and edX. At home the Tsinghua University developed a network open course platform called "school online" based on the edX.Based on this background and combining with the needs of students and teachers in our school, this thesis designed and developed an online learning platform which can be able to respond to large-scale users’ simultaneous access. Firstly, the thesis conducted an intensive research on the technologies which are related to the building of platform including P2P, VOD, Bittorrent protocol and B/S structure. Then the thesis conducted a needs analysis on the learning platform including feasibility, function and performance analysis. On this basis, the thesis made a summary design for the learning platform including the server and client. The server mainly includes Tracker server, Web server, database server and conservation server. The client mainly includes V6Speed for download and VLC player. At last, the thesis achieved the function of each part on the learning platform based on the previous design and tested mainly on the function of video downloading and playing to ensure that it reaches the expected utility. The traditional VOD mainly uses C/S mode and users only send the request to the server to get resources. So it exist the network bandwidth bottlenecks. When large-scale users accessed to the server, the video cannot be played smoothly. The innovation of the thesis just reflected on the solution to this problem. The platform uses P2P mode to download and play video by introducing BT technology in campus based on the BitTorrent protocol. Then the more users download and play the video, the more smoothly the video plays.
