With rapid development of electronic information technology, the hospital information system is upgraded continuously since last century, but the professional software for nursing service has not been applied at a large scale. According to the current information system using in Kashi District First People’s Hospital and the analysis on the actual nursing works and nursing flows, this paper has designed a nursing management system suitable for the hospital in Kashi region.Nursing Management System as a platform for management, the traditional PC computers and PDA with barcode scanner have been chosen for taking better care of patients. Under the help of a wireless network, the PCs and PDAs can be extended to the wards of hospital form the ward nurses station. The System used a standard three-tier architecture, which includes data access layer, business logistics layer and user interface. Using the WebService on the server, the system could be expanded and upgraded easily. In function, the patient management subsystem, patient vital sign collection subsystem, orders management subsystem, order execution management subsystem, label management subsystem and document subsystem have been chosen. The primary principal of sub-function design and implementation is make the usage of system more easily and less difficulty, and it should not cause excessive impact on existing works. During the design phase, unified modeling language UML was used for system modeling, such as use case model was used for modeling system, class diagram model for navigating data stream, timing diagram for system business process, and so on. Based on these designs, each of the system design phase can be analyses on diagram modularization, which make the system’s implementation more quickly, correctly and flexibly. Furthermore, Entity-Relationship diagram is used to construct conceptual model of the system information structure. Finally, the database implementation is realized on Oracle11g, and the system on all platforms was written in C#language and running on Microsoft.Net Framework3.5platform.After months of testing, the nursing management system has met the basic requirements of the hospital. The original manual much changed into electronic, which improved the efficiency of data acquisition while reducing the data error. Implementation of three inspections and seven verifications reduced the risk of the wrong medicine, which made patients become the beneficiaries of the development of medical information. The paperless and information based management on medical information is not only greatly reduced the hospital’s cost, but also strengthened medical procedure management, improved the quality of health care, reduced medical errors, ensured the safety of health care, increased patient satisfaction, which let the hospital’s achieving careful management laid a good foundation.
