Nowadays,4G network has been officially commercialized. Data services aredeveloping rapidly. The capacity of transmission network is facing great challenges.Guangzhou Mobile Co. used to have its main mode of business capacity set up bycombining SDH and WDM. But SDH technology based on TDM kernel can nolonger meet the development needs of IP services. WDM technology only deals withthe transmission of large capacity data, but is weak in bandwidth management anddata processing capability. However, PTN technology is based on swap kernel,carrying an obvious advantage of IP service capacity, which makes up for theshortcomings of SDH technology. Within the metropolitan area transmissionnetwork, considering scheduling, aggregation and protect the recovery, deployingOTN network can solve the bottleneck created by WDM network.PTN independent networking is commonly used in networks with less traffic.Superimposition networking is to establish a corresponding PTN network with theprecondition of existing OTN network in the convergence layer. All the services ofPTN network is carried by OTN network. The combined PTN+OTN networkingmode is a perfect synthesis of the carrying and scheduling capability of GE/1OGElink positioning in the aggregation level of OTN bearer network and the PTNtransmission network. Along with the advantage of combining the large carryingcapacity of TON network and the point-to-point OAM connection system of PTNnetwork, a unified deployment can improve the utilization rate of cable resources,and reduce network building cost.This paper investigates on practical engineering applications conducted byGuangzhou Mobile Co. Findings prove that considering the respective businesscarrying capacity, network structure and maintenance, PTN and OTN networks bearexcellent potential of integration and complementarity, and are especially suitable forjoint network to achieve the unity of business carrying capacity. Such engineeringschemes can be replicated by the mobile operators in other provinces.
