In recent years, with the rapid development of science and technology, the new mediaera has quietly arrived. The new media era, which was defined as the propagation from all toall by American Magazine, WIRED, has rapidly spread in this personalized way ofcommunication, and was approved by more and more people. The arrival of the new mediaera has built a brand-new space of media for people, and the charismatic form of media hassignificant influence to the economy, culture and way of life of the current human society,which was firmly connected with everybody.Based on the macro background for the new media era, this paper will trace thehistorical significance of the Four Great Inventions of Ancient China, which are the compass,the paper-making, the movable type printing and the gunpowder, meanwhile, the applicationand new existing forms of the Four Great Inventions in the new media era will be discussed.This paper consists of five parts.Started with a general introduction, this thesis reviews the definition, the characteristics,and the current level of the development of the new media, along with the latest domestic andforeign trends. The new media appears as the new media form in support of advancedtechnology. The new media has no doubt at the forefront of the media industry in this freneticinformation age. Moreover, the development of the new media also has significant impacts onnew media art.Secondly, this paper states the implication, the characteristics, the development, thecurrent situation, the meaning and the influence of the new media art. The new media art isthe combination of art and technology, and the grand background of the new media eraprovides strong support for the new media art, and new media art is also inadvertently deepinto the various fields of modern art.Thirdly this paper analyses the changes of the Chinese Four Great Inventions fromancient to modern. The Four Great Inventions has a huge impact on the development ofancient China’s policy, economy and culture; moreover, as they were widely spread in thewestern world, these inventions had a huge influence on the history of civilization of theworld. Thereby the author believes that the Four Great Inventions can be considered as the"media industry" in ancient China. The so-called "new media" is an extension and progress between the transmission and receiving. From the ancient times, the media industry constantlyupgraded and developed, the advent of the new media era is certainly another brand-newrevolution since the invention of papermaking, the compass, movable type printing andgunpowder. In addition, this paper also specifically addresses the new interpretation of theFour Great Inventions in the new media era.After discussing the influences and the impacts of Four Great Inventions and the newapplication in the new media era, we still need to think about that in this era of rapiddevelopment of information technology the Four Great Inventions will appear in what wayand provide a powerful impetus to the development of policy, economy and culture of ourcountry and even the world, and bring the positive influence.Finally, this paper will comprehensively summarize the mentioned points above andlook to the future of the new media era.
