Research Of Risk In Internet News Media’s Reporting On Public Health Issues

Public health is related to everyone, for the public, it is particularly important to establish ascientific public health information framework. In network information age, network newsmedia is one of the main channel of public to get public health information, because of itsimmediacy, interactivity and huge amounts of information. In the dissemination of publichealth information, it plays an important role. And on the formation of framework of publichealth information, it is important to the public. In contemporary risk society, the purpose ofthis paper is to examine the public health issues reported by network news media in recentyears, and to examine the role and responsibility in reporting, to summarize the experiencesand lessons.The samples of this study, representative network news medias and major public healthevent, are established by the method of stratified sampling. Finally, this study choose thenews report about HIV/AIDS and avian flu of People’s Daily online and Xinliangnet from theyear2011to2013as samples, to study the network news medias’ reports on public healthissues laterally and longitudinally. And analyze the quantity, sources, theme, ways, and tonesof the reports with the instruction of Gum’s news frame theory.On the basis of quantitative analysis of the sample, finally this study is mainly concludedas the follows in combination with qualitative analysis of other network news media s’ newsreports on public health issues: according to the study of reports on public health issues fromnetwork news medias, it comes out that the quantity of reports and the importance of thepublic health event are positively correlated, and the number of reports is on the rise since2011. Network news medias have certain preferences about sources, the rate of governmentofficials and experts and scholars is quite high. The theme of reports is given priority todisease events and study report, thinking of the public health events gets a small coverage.And the way of reports is given priority to message, the tone of reports is given priority toneutral.Integrated view, according to the study reports on public health issues from networknews medias, we can find not only the characteristic about satisfying the public’s right toknow, real events and the media power, but also the inaccurate reports. So, this study proposes the idea of professionalism, balanced coverage, rational guidance, participating insocial moral construction, and regulate and guiding the network news media, to improvenetwork news media’s reports on public health issues in the future.
