SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing)transmission technologies have been obtained large scale applications in communicationnetwork, and ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network) equipment based on SDHplatform has started to be deployed gradually in present networks. For the enhancement ofdata service of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), the MSTP (Multi-Service TransferPlatform) technology and PTN (Packet Transport Network) technology based on packettransmission have been widely applied to communication network. The situation OTN(Optical Transport Network) development faced has two sides. On one hand, OTN cancomplement each other’s advantages with other transmission technologies. On the other hand,OTN faces the challenges being replaced by other transmission technologies in some cases.OTN technology has its own internal development requirements to be more mature andperfect gradually.From the new service progress, we can see that the single-function nature of traditionalelectrical network leads to the emergence of optical layer network just like OTN technology.OTN is a kind of transmission network based on the optical layer network structure andWDM technology. OTN remedies the limitations of SDH and WDM networks. As a newoptical transmission technology, OTN has the both advantages of SDH and WDM. OTN hasthe high capacity bandwidth equal to WDM and the operation advantages equal to SDH.Besides, OTN technology provides functions of signaling and routing, and offers faster andsafer transmission. OTN technology integrates the advantages of electrical field and opticalfield. It has super high capacity and carrier-class security protection services. OTN networkallows the telecom operators to deploy the end-to-end service rapidly, and the problems ofwavelength uncertainty and sub-wavelength coupling for traditional WDM facilities arecompletely solved. OTN adopts more automated network and abandons many complexoperations, then the miss probabilities are reduced. For the numerous advantages above,OTN has widely applications in local network, intra-provincial network and backbonenetwork. OTN technology makes broadband services can be transmitted through backbonelayer, convergence layer and access layer of the local network. With the networking analysis,based on OTN technology, various network structures can be set up, and the networkstructures will be more varied. The integration and coexistence for the OTN evolution andother transmission technologies represent the future optical network development tendency. In this paper, Yingkou telecom local network is studied as the research object. We takelots of investigations about network resource, and the local network structures are alsoanalyzed. We point out the problems and risks. Additionally, we take overall designs aboutthe selection of backbone nodes and the topological structures for local network. With fullyconsideration of advancement, availability and security of the equipment, finally the OTNdevices of Huawei are adopted. We analyze the competition and integration of OTN and theother mainstream transmission technologies. Besides, we introduce the OTN technology intothe Yingkou telecom local network. The integration and coexistence for OTN,SDH andWDM technologies are achieved.
