With the gradual improvement of living condition, the vehicle has become one of themost important transportation tools in our daily life. According to the statistics from Ministryof Public Security up to November2014, the total number of domestic civil motor vehicleshas reached264million, including154million cars. If the engine oil is replaced on aninaccurate time or before its deterioration, it must lead to some problems such as the parts’abnormal wear caused by the overuse of engine oil or waste of resources and otherissues.Therefore, the engine oil of high quality plays an important role in its normaloperation, the normal operation time of the engine will be delayed by developing anddesigning the monitoring and warning system for engine oil quality. Through thedevelopment and use of the oil quality monitoring and warning system, the traditionalregular scheduled maintenance system can be gradually changed into the engine oil changingsystem based on oil quality monitoring.This paper aims to develop an integrated oil quality monitoring and warning system ofgood cost performance, high reliability and high availability, which can determine the qualitystatus of the engine oil by dealing with the feedback monitoring data. It can give warnings ofdifferent level to users before the oil is completely deteriorated. This paper adopted themulti-sensor fusion technology, using the inductive sensors to monitor the changes offerromagnetic particles in engine oil, the flow sensor to monitor the changes of kinematicviscosity of the engine oil. Then the abnormal oil state will be evaluated comprehensivelythrough the parameters above, and the results will be output to interface. A simulation runtest platform of the monitoring system is built in the lab. In order to run the hardware systemefficiently, an STM32microcontroller-based controlling and displaying software system isfurther developed to filter and optimize the measured data on software, which can improveprecision of the monitoring results. Finally, this paper has designed a program about how thesystem can be installed in a real car to make it convenient to install and use this oilmonitoring system, in order to monitor the oil quality in real time, improve the oil usage,reduce the engine’s failure rate, and ultimately achieve the goal of the rational use ofresources.
