In recent years, the development of the global economy and technology hasboosted the industrial technology rapidly as well as the technical level of computerhardware and software; meanwhile, the CAD technology and its application also havechanged a lot during this tide. At present, the general CAD software has been widelyused, but the further development of the CAD software is relatively backward. Thedesigner has repeatedly modeled the same series of parts, which not only has largelywasted the manpower and other resources, but also increased the cycle and the cost ofproduction development. If the secondary development on General CAD systemcould be reached, and the practicability of the software could also be strengthened,which will be friendly to3D parts CAD system. In this case, it will greatly lowerdown the cost and the cycle of the product development, avoid the duplication ofother similar products, improve the efficiency of design. Then the design engineer canpay more time on the study of product quality and performance.Based on this, this paper takes cylindrical gear as the example, using twosecondary development function of Pro/E, to have the development andimplementation of parametric design CAD system. This system is under Windows XPoperating system, using VS2005integrated development environment, for the purposeof designing the interface. According to setting the original data of products, users cando its development. Through this system, users can directly call the3D standard partlibrary, to achieve the rapid development and design of product. The system canflexibly expand which will greatly reduce the cost of the design, avoid repeateddesign of similar parts, and increase the efficiency of product design. The details areas follows:(1) The analysis and discussion about the CAD technology in the mechanicalparts design.(2) The gear parametric modeling. Have analyzed the gear’s characteristics basedon the cylindrical gear and established the mathematical model. The author hasestablished three-dimensional modeling according to basic parameters of gears byusing the three-dimensional drawing software Pro/Engineer4.0.(3) Creating the menus and dialog boxes of gear parts. To develop the Pro/E4.0by using Pro/E4.0as the development platform while Visual Studio2005as theprogramming tool. And create a "parametric design" drop-down menu andhuman-computer interaction interface dialog box in Pro/E modeling software.(4) To build a three-dimensional parametric gear design system based on the above. This has realized the automatic generation of the gear corresponding3Dgraphics based on the basic data of given gear. The system can demonstrate thenumber of gear teeth, module, pressure angle, helix angle, changing when the basicparameters changed such as width, and changing situation of gear model, so thatdesigners can understand the gear with the variation law of parameters, which hasplayed an important guiding significance to the designer.The realization of the system, can greatly reduce the workload, improveefficiency, and reduce the design cost. Have a good reference for parametric design ofother parts.
