With the development of information applications and the rapid expansion of network traffic, the bearing capacity of traditional telecommunication network has been unable to meet the needs of users. Progress of IP technology makes the integration of telecommunications networks and IP technology, which has gradually become the mainstream of development. As the core of the next generation network control technology, IMS network, which is the evolving direction form of current network, can satisfy the customers more innovative and more diverse request. IMS is a packet network. Using the hierarchical technique, it realizes the separation calling and medium and the separation of business and call control, making each layer realize independent evolution. For mobility management and integration of three networks, IMS networks can also provide good supports. Because of the superiority, there is nothing comparable to this IMS network, more and more researches are being done on it and all operators began to establish their own IMS network. So the IMS network performance testing becomes increasingly important.In the control level of IMS, CSCF (call session control function) is the core part, which uses the SIP protocol to complete the session control. The performance of CSCF equipment determines the signal processing ability of IMS network. MRF (multimedia resource function), which mainly completes the multiparty call and multimedia conference function, is an important function entity processing multimedia. Audio and video services supported by IMS network are dependent on the processing and transmission of streaming media. Therefore, measuring the quality of service in IMS networks need to test signaling processing ability of CSCF equipment, media processing, coding ability of MRF equipment and transmission quality of media.This paper firstly introduces the background and significance of IMS network testing and analyzes the research situation in this field at home and abroad. Then technology involved to IMS network signaling and media test is presented. In order to have a comprehensive evaluation of IMS network service capacity, the test index about the signaling media service quality, including registration/call success rate, registration/call delay, the maximum number of connections, the transmission loss about media, jitter and frequency vector correlation of audio. According to the index corresponding, test processes are designed, which combined with test rate model to form a test plan. The test plan is the requirements needed to be completed. Then, this paper describes in detail the key issues to be solved in the tester designing process, which mainly focuses on the test speed accuracy, load balance and audio comparison research. Based on this, the paper introduces the overall design of the testing instrument, including the system architecture design, the relationship between modules, and the working mechanism of the system. Then the realization of main function module is introduced. I mally, the test for the function and performance of the system is done and the work which has already been finished, the work need to be perfected in the further are summarized.
