WCDMA technology is developing rapidly, which has been transferred fromTDM to ATM and IP, and then evolved to the all-IP. For the technicians and3Gengineers, it’s a big challenge to keep up with the technology. In order to satisfythe demand of technology research and development, equipment maintenance, personnel training and other aspects, the current network simulation experimentenvironment is very important. At present, mobile device experimental networktechnology of China Unicom Nokia Siemens is out-of-date, so it’s necessary tobuild a WCDMA experimental networks which synchronize software andhardware to the current network technology. The purpose of this paper is to study how to design and construct Nokia SiemensWCDMA experimental network including CN, UTRAN and UE sections, basedon ATM and IP technology, whose function is to achieve simulation realization ofvoice, video telephone, data communications and other functions.China Unicom plans to build a Nokia Siemens WCDMA experimental networkequipment operation and maintenance training base in Heilongjiang TrainingCenter in order to enhance the professional level of mobile maintenancepersonnel, to support3G development. The whole network consists of wirelessside, CS domain and PS domain of the core network, supporting parts and so on.This paper focuses on the design and implementation of wireless side part.Through the selection of China Unicom WCDMA network equipment, and theanalysis of network current situation, discussion with Nokia Siemens technicalpersonnel, with reference to the relevant provisions of the Nokia Siemensequipment installation and debugging, combined with the actual situation ofHeilongjiang Training Center, network characteristics, and the demand of theactual engineering steps, we built a WCDMA experimental network, by thedesign of wireless access equipment, RNC and NodeB equipment selection andlayout, equipment configuration, connection between cable and optical cable inhardware installation, design and debugging of RNC hardware and software andequipment function test, which can meet the demand not only of engineeringtechnology, but also of technical support and training of3G technicians.
