Wideband CDMA technology was selected to for UTRAN air interface. WCDMA is one of the three mainstream standards in IMT-2000 family. It has made great success all over the world. In 2009 & 2010, about 175 Node-B, basic stations have been newly established quickly in Huaibei City.3G Epoch is coming, bringing an incredible revolution to mobile communication services.A 3G network based on WCDMA technology is functionally divided into three elements:UTRAN, CN and operations support system. UTRAN consists of UE, Node-B, RNC. The UE, e.g. iPhone3GS, iPhone4, is attached to both the CS domain and PS domain, and the UE is capable of simultaneously operating CS services and PS services. Optimization for CS and PS services is very important for the whole 3G mobile network. And the research on this area is hot now and will be going on in the future.The main research of this paper is as follows:First, this thesis starts with the Technology and Concept of WCDMA, the function of UTRAN entities, UTRAN Optimization for CS and PS services in Huaibei City.Second, the author introduces several basic WCDMA technology and concept,3G Signaling Procedures, typical UMTS procedures in CS domain and PS domain.Third,3G-2G interworking, HSDPA and HSUPA Performance Optimization is discussed. And Some Optimization Case Study is listed.Finally, we make a conclusion and work out a plan for future UTRAN optimization.
