《Science》《Popular Science》and Modern Chinese Astronomy(1914-1949)

The Science Community of China in the existence and development of45years, playing the very important role in the development of modernscience of China. As the largest comprehensive scientific community inthe period of the Republic of China, the Science Community of China tookup the heavy responsibility in the early days;with "saving the nationthrough science" as the goal, in the situation of domestic turbulentpolitical and condition of downturn economy, did not change originalintention, strong foothold and development, membership has grown, andcultivate a group of great scientists, to promote the development of theChinese science, it was the foundation of Chinese modern science.Thevaliant record is well worth thinking over by the following generations.The achievement of China ancient astronomy can not be summarized in a word,and the period of the Republic of China is the significant decline, a trenddecline, nor a moment causes. The Science Society of China is such a"saving the nation through science" folk organization in the turbulentsocial environment how to publicize science, popularize scientificknowledge, promote the scientific system, it is very worthy of thinkingstudy. At the same time, astronomy natural which belong to natural scienceis one of the propaganda content of the Science Society of China, howto do as mentioned before the promotion, to achieve the purpose of "savingthe nation through science", is also worth exploring.Prior to this, more and more scholars take the Science Community ofChina as the research object. Some scholars started to study from itorganization system, some scholars pay attention to the personalbackground of founders, some scholars take the working content as mainresearch, such as the academic seminars, library, museum of "science" and"science" magazine, foreign scholars have carried out relevant research.Scholars taking China astronomy as research object is not in the minority,and the contents of the research are also very rich, but the combinationof the two research scholars are very rare, so the author tries to combinethe two, hope to learn something through a series of research methods.The author focus on the "science" and "science pictorial" from1914to1949, by using the astronomy class content which published in this two magazines as the research object, collecting related content of377issues during the study period,using of statistics, induction, analysisand other research methods, and strive to introduce work of the ScienceCommunity of China in astronomy, summary the Science Community of Chinain promoting the role and influence the development of China modernastronomy, try to make a historical evaluation objective, neutral for theScience Community of China, reveal its practical significance.
