The Internet in China has developed for more than10years, until theend of December2012, the Internet penetration rate is42.1%(based onthe31times development of China Internet network report). Internet hasexerted a huge and profound effect on the change of communicationecology, the transformation of life-style and even the strike of thoughtand perception. We have the issue that how internet impact on Chineseresidents, and how Chinese resident use internet, whether their medialiteracy promote or not, and whether the new media literacy is formingand how it works. Early media literacy research is mainly on theeducation of traditional media. With the rapid development of Internet,whether the network is to promote or hinder for Chinese residents. Theresearch of new media literacy is very scarce. This study will attempt touse questionnaire survey and focus group interview method, throughthree dimensions to investigate the use of the Internet influence onChinese residents’ media literacy levels: the ability of using media andinformation, analyzing&evaluate media and information, creatinginformation&participating in the activities of media, to take in-depthstudy of the impact of the Internet on Chinese residents using media literacy. The study found that the usage of internet does have a positiveimpact on media literacy of Chinese residents, but studies have founddifferences of media literacy is not just caused by the Internet, theregistered permanent residence, age and educational level media literacyalso affect. This study explores the "knowledge gap" theory applicabilityin the Internet era, in order to provide reference value by developingbetter ways to achieve localization of media literacy education in China.This study also has a very profound impact on the construction ofsocialist civic literacy.
