At the present time, in the domestic gas industry, selecting an appropriate way of meterreading has always been a hot topic. The way of traditional meter reading is time-consuming,laborious and low accuracy. With the development of the domestic network communicationtechnology and microcomputer technology, automatic meter reading has become the maindirection of development in our country. In this paper, we design a gas meter sensor nodebased on ZigBee wireless communication technology.ZigBee is a new short-range wireless communication technology.It features oflow-cost,low-rate and low-power make it an applicable choice to a wide range of areas. Thispaper has designed the hardware of a sensor node based on the CC2430chip, and the softwarethat is used to achieve the communication between node and host computer. The maincontributions and works are as follows:1. Design a gas meter data measurement module and selected the type of the sensor. Thedesign uses three magnetic sensors for metering data collection.These sensors include twoHall sensors and a reed switch sensor which are mounted on the counting gear of gas meterequidistantly and symmetrically. When these sensors pass by a small magnet, which is fixedin a place having a small gap with respect to the gear, in a certain order, metering data can becollected correctly and in the events of vibration or reverse movement of the counting gearoccur alarm signal will be issued.2. Designed other expansion modules.It’s includes a real-time clock module,magneticinterference detection module and power-down protection module.The real-time clockmodule is achieved by a DS1302chip.The magnetic field detection uses a Hall sensor todetect effectively external magnetic interference caused by human influence. The power-down protection module uses an external rechargeable battery to keep system working when inpower outage condition. 3. Applied the structure of Z-Stack protocol stack to establish a zigbee network in thedesign of software under IAR Embedded Workbench develop environment.
