With the development of3D simulation technology, many domestic and foreignagencies and departments have been working on it to develop kinds of virtual fire drillsystems, to simulate scenes of fire and to draft fire fighting plans. Some existingsystems focus much on evacuation process of fire and some focus much on improvingreality of fire scene and interactive experience between user and machine. Thesesystems didn’t target on precise simulation of modeling fire engine and motionsimulation.We studied some related modeling method of fire engine in existing virtual firedrill systems, and then propose an approach to build various types of fire engine. Weanalyzed key actions in the process of firefighting for kinds of fire engines, and givetwo strategies for driving fire engine to implement different kinds of animation effects.For the simulation of the key parts of scaling ladder pumper, command vehicle andfire-extinguishing water tanker,including doors, wheels, fire ladders and fire hose, weuse the strategy of driving existing animation sets by skeletal animation technology toimplement the effect of single animation and blend animation of them. For thesimulation of road movement action of fire engine along the scene road, we use thestrategy of driving node of root skeleton to implement the animation effect ofauto-choose and move along the shortest path for fire engine model. Based on ourmodeling method and simulation strategy, we use3dsMax and DirectX to implementa fire engine modeling and action simulation system.Our system simulates a simple virtual outdoor scene for providing functions ofloading, editing and rendering for various type of elements of static and dynamicscene. Based on user’s instructions, the system drive the fire engine model tocomplete appointed animation effects in the outdoor scene, and implement variousmotion simulations in the process of firefighting.
