To get the interpretation of a nation’s image, usually it is required to start with how foreign mass media build the image of the country. This thesis takes one of Philippine mainstream newspaper, Daily Inquirer, as the study object, which contains nearly eight hundred China-related reports in three years; and through content analysis and framework analysis, the image of China in the paper presents on:In the framework of China-related reports, Chinese national news are more than international; negative reports are more than positive;90%of the manuscripts are from Agence France-Presse and the Associated Press.In the specific content, news about China’s domestic social problems and a major disaster are most, followed by political and military; international news include the Sino-Japanese dispute over the Diaoyu Islands, the Sino-Philippines dispute over Huangyan Island, trade friction of China-Europe and China-USA and China’s military expansion.Overall, China is portrayed as a big Asian country with large number of social problems, disaster-prone, international disputes but ambitious outward expansion.
