Petrochemical industry, which provides support and services to the energy,transportation, agriculture, machinery, textile, construction and other industrialproduction sectors and people’s living standards, is an important part of the chemicalindustry. It plays a crucial role for the development of China’s national economy. Themain work of petrochemical industry is to obtain petroleum and petrochemicalproducts from oil and gas. Most of the raw materials and products of petrochemicalare flammable, toxic and hazardous. With the continuous expansion of the scale of thepetrochemical industry, petrochemical accidents frequent, poses a serious threat to theproperty of the country and health of the people. With the rapid development ofinformation technology, virtual reality technology has been widely used in variousfields of social production and life. How to use the virtual reality technology in thefield of petrochemical safety, to improve the safety management level, improveemergency disposal, and enhance safety training effect, is one of the hotspots insecurity petrochemical research in recent years.This paper focuses on virtual reality technology in the field of petrochemicalsafety, puts forward a virtual reality platform for petrochemical safety. The platformhas "3D petrochemical data management","3D scenario build","petrochemicalsecure application release " and other functions.The principal contents and achievement of this dissertation are summarized asfollows:(1) Software architecture design of the platformAccording to the actual needs of petrochemical safety, This paper designs avirtual reality platform, which consists of sub-platform for petrochemical3D modelmanagement, sub-platform for visual editing and sub-platform for petrochemicalsafety applications. It also makes a detailed design for function module of eachsub-platform. According to the principle of the separation of data, engines, business, the platform architecture is divided into data layer, the core engine layer, applicationlayer and the presentation layer.(2) The design of petrochemical3D model libraryIn this section, the article describes the three-dimensional modeling techniques,studies two kinds of3D model format: Max and Mod. On the basis of thepetrochemical industry standard, combining with the characteristics of virtual reality,this paper makes a3D model data classification and coding standards. Takeequipment library as an example, based on the MySQL database, this paper gives adesign of the database table structure, and carries on the instantiated in MySQL.(3) Research on key technology of the platformThis paper researches the key technologies of the platform from three aspects.First, after the comparison of with plug-ins and no plug-ins Web3D technology, thispaper studies the ActiveX technology and achieves a3D rendering control based onVRGIS rendering engine. Second, it takes on a research on a isosurface algorithmnamed "Marching Cube", realizes the gaussian model3D visualization in platformcombined with gaussian smoke cloud model and gaussian plume model mathematicaltheory. Third, it gives the design of petrochemical safety property database and theresearch of types of property visualization.(4) Integration and application of this platformIn this section, the paper gives a study on the platform’s integrate way in VRGISrendering engine. By the use of C++and OpenGL, We achieve the platform’sdevelopment and integration. Finally, combined with application, the paper reports therunning effects of every module.
