OFDM (orthogonal frequency division modulation) is regarded as one of the most promising techniques for wireless mobile communication. ASIC, compared with the circuit board or FPGA implementation, can make OFDM system achieve a smaller area, lower power consumption, and higher reliability, so it can be better used in the mobile communication device. Many chip manufacturers abroad already started to develop, and have got series of products, while domestic has been dominated by FPGA implementation, and lacks high-performance OFDM modulation and demodulation chips. This thesis will discuss the ASIC design and implementation of OFDM modulation and demodulation system, and focuses on the physical design techniques that can improve chip performance.Main contents are:1) introduce the techniques must be considered when using OFDM system for data transferring, including channel estimation and equalization, reduce PAPR, synchronous and baseband modulation and demodulation algorithm. And commonly used algorithms of the techniques above are compared.2) Based on the above analysis, determine the algorithms of the circuit, and finish the design of function modules and interface by dividing the system into the modulation part, the demodulation part and the channel coding and decoding part. Identify the impact of logical structure on the physical implementation.3) The OFDM modulation and demodulation circuit physical implementation process has been described in detail, and the ASIC design challenges caused by circuit characteristics have been discussed in-depth, then this thesis raises a number of key technologies to improve the performance of the chip. These key technologies include: floorplan methods for a digital-analog hybrid circuit with large number of macro module, the crosstalk prevention methods and the network design techniques to enhance the integrity of power.4) Researches the low-power technology in logic synthesis process, and the influence of library on the ASIC implementation.5) Gives the chip simulation reports and sample test results.6) Give a physical implementation program to the large-scale, multi-module mixed analog-digital circuit like OFDM, and suggestions for future improvement.
