Low-power wireless RF transceiver includes a baseband controller, RF analogfront end and memory. The baseband controller not only needs to handle the packagesthat the RF front-end receives or transmit packages through the RF front-end, but alsoexchange data with MCU through the interface circuit. Therefore baseband controlleris the most important core component of a low-power wireless RF transceiver.This paper presents a novel baseband controller with high data processing speed,low power consumption and good security features, which can achieve SPIcommunication and a variety of transceiver functional. This circuit was eventuallyapplied to a low-power wireless RF transceiver chip witch works at the frequency of780MHz and the rate up to2Mbps.For the feature of low-power wireless RF transceiver chip, the overall structure ofthe baseband controller is described and modules are divided by functions. Theimplementation of the interface circuit, framing circuit, deframing circuit, and the coreprocessor are described in detail. EDA tools are used to achieve the design of digitalbaseband controller from the front-to-back complete ASIC design flow. Logicverification, FPGA verification, timing simulation after P&R and post-layout physicalsimulation have also been done.Using SMIC0.18μm CMOS circuit design process, the baseband controller wasfinally integrated into an RF communication chip which has been taped out and tested.Test results show that the baseband controller functions well with0.54mm2core sizeand0.59mW power consumption. The baseband control circuit can properlycommunicate via SPI bus with an external MCU, and can correctly transmit data viaRF front-end and efficiently handle data receives by RF front-end. So the basebandcontroller can achieve the function of digital control of low-power wireless RFtransceiver chip.
