In modern monitoring and communication system, with the growth of processinginformation and the increase of data volume and data transmission bandwidth fromhigh-resolution remote sensing satellites and spacecraft, data transmission systemsneed to meet more requirements, correspondingly. The high-speed optical fiber communication system designed in this paper is toimplement to transmit data between data source and data terminal through optical fiber. In addition, the data can transmit between terminals and computers with high speed.Due to the increase of data transmission speed makes the traditional PCI bustechnology cannot satisfy the needs of computers or network equipment for high-speedIO communication bandwidth, hence, I choose the third-generation I/O bus—PCIExpress (referred to as PCIe) as the data transfer bus for interacting between dataterminal and computer becomes. In the paper, firstly, using of Xilinx FPGA’s GTX IPcore implements the interface design of fiber optic communications, and then Iachieves the interface design based on Xilinx FPGA’s PCIe Endpoint Block IP corewhich completes the data transformation by the bus DMA to finish the high-speed datatransmission between data terminals and the computers. The primary aspect of thehigh-speed optical fiber communication system is the design of the FPGA control logicin circuit board of high-speed data transmission, including data transceiver controllerand PCIe interface controller. In order to verify the function and performance of the system, the paperenumerates a lot of test cases. The test results are that the rate of optical fibercommunication can be up to4Gbps and the rate of PCIe bus can be up to8Gbps. Thetest results show that the system has properties of high speed, robustness and accuracyduring transmission data which can meet the current requirements of the datatransmission in the modern monitoring and communication system. Hence, it has agood future and practical value.
