With the rapid development of social economy and continuous improvement of living standard, people are increasingly concerned about the safety of their living conditions and property safety, therefore video-based security surveillance system is widely used in residential, traffic control, financial services and many other fields due to its intuitive visual form and rich content. And in recent years, along with the rapid development of embedded processing technology, mobile smart terminals, broadband network technology, and the continuous optimization of the codec performance, it’s of great practical significance to improve the comprehensive performance of the monitoring system and expand its application scope by researching and developing video-based wireless network surveillance system.In this paper, the aim is to develop a home security monitoring system based on embedded microprocessor and mobile smart terminal, and with the aid of configured mobile client, monitor user can achieve real-time video surveillance on home field at anytime and anywhere by realize video communication under the wireless network condition.Firstly, combined with demand analysis of various functional modules and relevant technology foundation (including video capture, video codec, network packet sending, receiving and display, etc.), overall frame structure of the monitoring system (server/client mode) is proposed around the realization of wireless video communication in the surveillance system.Secondly, each functional module of field server and remote user client of the monitoring system is designed and achieved respectively, which including the transplantation and cross-compiler environment building of embedded Linux operating system, video capture based on V4L2interface, H.264/AVC video coding, and RTP network packet transmission in the field server; and video data receiving, decoding, displaying and controlling, as well some necessary local storage in the Android client platform.Finally, comprehensive implementation of the whole surveillance system is realized and tested, and with the setting of list buffer, an adaptive network congestion control strategy is designed according to the transmission characteristics of wireless network. Then the realization of video data transmission under the wireless network condition is verified and analyzed after continuous debug and improvement, and a corresponding outlook is presented for further research and development at last.
