FIR digital filter is a base unit in digital signal processing technology, andwidely used in engineering owing to its stability and linear phase characteristics.The conventional FIR filter has only one functional feature and can’t change itsfunction in real time, thus not be suited for different areas. Reconfigurabletechnology on FPGA provides a solution on this issue. Reconfigurable FIR filtershave defects such as complex control, low degree of automation and longconfiguration time at present. This thesis studies reconfigurable technology and theFIR filter hardware structure, designs and implements an reconfigurable FIR digitalfilter. By receiving the RS-232reconstruction command, the filter can switchprofile in reconfigurable region automatically, and change its parameters in a shorttime. Thus a variety of different filtering functions can be achieved on a singlehardware circuit.This thesis analyzes the present research situation and problem on FIR filtersbased on FPGA and reconfigurable FIR filters, discusses reconfiguration strategy,configuration mode and implementation method of Xilinx reconfigurabletechnology, and studies the FIR filter hardware structure. An reconfigurable FIRfilter architecture is also proposed and designed in this paper. Xilinx ML510development board is used as the hardware platform, and a FIR filter with thefunction of local self-reconfiguration is achieved on SOPC by joint use of anexternal FPGA reconfigurable embedded controller System ACE and a hard-coreprocessor PowerPC440. Simulation of the filter function and test of the filterfunction and performance are implemented to ensure proper implementation of thefilter function. Finally, the reconfigurable FIR filter is applied in filtering a mixedsinusoidal signal, as a validation instance.The actual test results show, the FIR filter based on reconfigurable technologycompletes the filtering function, and can be switched as different types of filters byreceiving an reconfigurable instruction in real time,which has a good versatility.Compared with the current reconfigurable filters, the FIR filter can be controlled ina simple method, with a shorter reconstruction time and higher degree ofautomation.
