Health is an eternal topic and a concept closely related to everyone. Modern peopleregard the health care and the absence of diseases as the important indicators ofimproving happiness. Along with the economic and social development, as well aspeople living standard enhancement, Health communication plays an increasinglyimportant role in the delivery of health knowledge, the establishment of people’s healthconcept and behavior changes. Health Communication originated in the United States,the theory and practices have become mature and improved after forty years ofdevelopment and accumulation. In contrast, the health communication research inChinese mainland started late and underdeveloped. Not until the outbreak of SARS in2003that made health communication studies increasingly concerned. Especially inrecent years, frequent emergent events of public health and food safety issues, and thecontinual emergence of new forms of media, they all provided an excellent opportunityfor health communication research and continuous development.Therefore, this paper reviews the development of health communication researchin Chinese mainland since2003, selects the theses of health communication researchcollected in the CNKI-"China academic journal network publishing pool" since January1,2003to December31,2013as the target samples to conduct empirical analysis. Thethesis displays the development and academic landscape context of healthcommunication research in Chinese mainland in recent years, and in terms of principalresearchers, research topics and research methods, the thesis discusses and counts thedata analysis about the relevant document literatures by using the content analysismethods, it also summarizes the status and characteristics, development trend and theexisting problems of domestic health communication research under the new socialenvironment, realistic environment and information environment. Furthermore, it looksinto the future of the development of health communication research. This empiricalstudy aims to make some contribution to the development of domestic healthcommunication research and academic development.
