In recent years, WLANs have been widely deployed all over the world. The sizeand number of WLANs keep increasing. At the same time, the energy crisis and globalwarming draw more and more attention. How to save energy and reduce consumptionhas gradually been taken into consideration in industry development. This articlefocuses on WLANs in which APs of high denesty have been deployed and studies APenergy efficiency management.Firstly, this paper analyzes the source and purpose of this research as well as thepresent situation and progress of green WLAN and AP management. Then the mainresearch content of this article is introduced.Secondly, the network delay is analyzed, and the strategy of resource on-demand isintroduced. Then this paper analyzes the basic consideration in design of resourceon-demand WLAN.Thirdly, this paper puts forward and studies the AP selection algorithm based oncomplete coverage of WLAN and optimization algorithm of AP transmission powercontrol. The former is for WLAN in which communication load remains low and thereexist a large number of idle APs. The purpose of AP selection algorithm is to power onless APs on condition that communication requirements are met. The latter is to let APswork with lower transmission power. Both of the two algorithms are aimed to saveenergy with low communication requirement. Then this paper gives classification andlayered structure of APs.Finally, the dynamic and adaptive control algorithm of AP based on doublethreshold is put forward, which is aimed to power on or off APs dynamicly according totraffic load. The results of simulation show that the dynamic control algorithm of APcan indeed reduce much energy consumption.
