Economic development and social progress have not only changed people’s way oflife, but also had a significant impact on the environment in which human live.Particularly, the indoor environment is closely related to the health and safety of human.With the development of relative technologies, it is easy for people to understand theindoor environment. Wireless Sensor Network is more prominent among thesetechnologies. It has become a research focus that attracts attention from many countries.Wireless Sensor Network has been widely used in many fields like military war,environmental monitoring, and medical treatments. As a new solution for environmentalmonitoring system, it has incomparable superiority of traditional solutions. Therefore, theresearch and applications of Wireless Sensor Network in indoor environment monitoringhave important practical significance and relatively high value. In this paper, an indoorenvironmental monitoring system was designed via Wireless Sensor Network, which hadcertain technical indicators and a few basic functions. This system makes animplementation of real-time monitoring temperature, light intensity, the concentration offormaldehyde for indoor environment.Firstly, the features, architecture and advantages of TinyOS are analyzed. The paperanalyzes and studies the key technologies of TinyOS, including the mechanisms ofwireless communication. TinyOS supports for multiple platforms of Wireless SensorNetwork, including the CC2430platform used in the system. Then, the overall designscheme of the system is proposed, which consists of technical specifications, functionalarchitecture, network architecture and wireless communication technology used. Thereare a sink node, a few sensor nodes and an upper PC in this system. The sensor nodes areresponsible for monitoring the environmental parameters indoor. The sink node works onforwarding the information between the sensor nodes and the upper PC. There is amonitoring interface on the upper PC. It can display the monitoring data in real-time.Then, based on the overall scheme, the paper designs the hardware circuit of the sinknode and the sensor nodes and selects the right devices for them. This can reduce costs ofthe system, while the functions of the system are met first. The applications for the sinknode and the sensor nodes are designed by using nesC language. nesC is specificallyapplied to design applications for TinyOS operating system, which has distinctivecharacteristics different with other languages. The development process for applicationand features of nesC are analyzed, and the application designed for each node is in theform of components.Finally, a monitoring platform with friendly human-machine interface is designed on the upper PC, which implements visualization for environmental monitoring data. Thepaper manufactures the PCB board of all the nodes. It also achieves the design of thehardware circuit and applications for the sink node and the sensor nodes.The system hasbeen assembled. In the last, the paper makes single debugging on the hardware andapplication of the nodes and combined debugging for the whole system. Then the resultsof the system operation were given. They show that the system designed can achievereal-time monitoring for indoor environmental parameters of a few locations. Throughthe monitoring platform, some parameters can be set and the historical monitoring datacan be queried. This article provides a better scheme for indoor environment monitoring,which certainly has value in theory and practice.
