As the deployment of the techniques of low-cost wireless communicates and micro-electronic, the smart sensor device has wide research work and applications. A large number of sensor devices are deployed in a certain region to form a wireless sensor network to accomplish some monitoring task. Wireless sensor networks have been used in many areas including military, civil, medical and transport. Within these applications, indoor environment monitoring is an important application. However, the characteristics of wireless sensor networks and the requirements of indoor environment monitoring propose challenges for the design of the system.In this work, we first study the techniques of indoor environment monitoring, and then design a wireless sensor network based indoor environment monitoring system. Our system has the component of environment data management, display and statistic the sensed data in the form of chart. Moreover, the system can fire alarm when the sensed data is over the given threshold. Meanwhile, the system also has functions of user management, log in management and user report management.Based on the previous analysis, we perform the architecture design, module design, database design and class design in detail. Based on the above design, we develop the software of our system under Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The experiments show the efficiency and reliability of our system. Moreover, our system have the feathers of easily maintainable and extensible.
