Wireless Sensor Network is a new meshwork with a big process in micro-electronics, wireless communications and embedded system technology. It can monitor, sense, collect and process data in real-time. Wireless sensor network has a very broad application prospects in the current international concern, it has become one of the most focused and hot new frontier of scientific and technological research.Environmental monitoring is a typical wireless sensor network application. Through the use of the sensor network by a large number of sensor nodes, researchers can collect continuously high-precision data interested in the environment. Using sensor networks for environmental monitoring rather than the traditional method has notable advantages such as little impact on the environment, the distribution of high density and strong practicability. In this paper, a practical, scalable operating system for wireless sensor networks was designed and implemented in connection with wireless sensor networks environmental monitoring applications.Firstly, the dissertation analyzes the user requirements and system requirements of the wireless sensor network environmental monitoring system. Then, the dissertation analyzes the functional requirements of the system's three subsystems (data acquisition subsystem, the base station subsystem and information real-time display subsystem). After that, the dissertation compared some typical wireless sensor network operating system and the sensor nodes, based on which to determine the system's hardware/software platform---TinyOS and TelosB. On the software side, the dissertation deeply researches the TinyOS operating system, based on nesC language; in terms of hardware, the dissertation describes TelosB sensor nodes and SHT11 in detail. Finally, the dissertation implements and tests the function of the system. Data acquisition subsystem and the base station subsystem are TinyOS-based and modular programmed, the format of the data packet and wireless transmission methods are defined, the wireless transceiver modules, data acquisition module and base station module with the interfaces used by those modules are programmed. For information on real-time display subsystem, LabWindows is used to program a man-machine interface to accomplish the data analysis, the environment parameter value real-time display and alarm functions. The work done by this dissertation can provide a reference solution for related research projects or application in related fields.
