Wireless sensor network consists of a number of sensor nodes, which make up of a multi-hop self-organizing network through wireless communication. It integrates sensing technology,embedded computing,communication and distributed information processing. It can be real-time sensing and acquiring some kind of information. Wireless sensor network has broad application prospects, for example, military reconnaissance, environmental monitoring, medical custody, space exploration, city transportation management, storage management and so on; among of these, environmental application is typical.Based on the platform of IRIS, an acquisition system which can measure temperature and humidity is proposed. Considering the characteristics of environment, the system contains three layers:sensor node,gateway and monitoring terminal. Firstly, this paper compares several embedded operating system, focusing on component,scheduling strategy and communication model of TinyOS, and then studies the nesC language and its compilation process. Secondly, designing the application program by using SHT71 to gather temperature and humidity information; meanwhile, analyzing and designing wireless communication program of AT86RF230, it realizes to transmit information among nodes, Through modifing XServe software, it realizes the function of displaying temperature and humidity by Cygwin. Finally, system's performance including energy consumption communication distance,point-to-point networking and mesh networking is tested. Experimental results show that the system have low energy consumption,long transmission distance; meanwhile, the network can be self-organization and self-healing, and measure data accurately. In addition to this, the node is of small size, so it can be installed and removed conveniently. With the progress of science and technology, environment application will bring some economic and social benefits.
